Fifty Shades of Grey Casting Rumors

…or rumours depending on which side of the pond you live on. However you spell it, the word still means the same thing.

Author tweet July 6, 2012:

We are so far away from casting the Fifty films … no-one ruled is out… no one is ruled in. Just so you know.

Co-producer tweet July 23, 2012:

All of the rumors on #FiftyShades are just that – rumors. No one has been cast in any role. We have to get a writer and director first.

Co-producer tweets July 23, 2012:

@teammattbomer @tsalcedo2 @DanaBrunetti no one’s been cast or even approached yet, all just rumors. writer and director first.

@MattBomer4CGrey @DanaBrunetti all just rumors, no cast has been approached. writer and director first.

Even Emma Watson wanted to set the record straight in an interview with Entertainment Weekly regarding rumors that she was in talks to play the role of Anastasia Steele.

“I haven’t read the book, I haven’t read a script, nothing. There are so many movies you become attached to when I’ve literally never even received a phone call. It was the same way with The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – I never even saw a script!”

She went on to say, “The thing is, I’m not going to go out there every time someone attaches me to a film to say no or release a statement.”

Emma Watson fans may not want to rule her out completely though. One could read between the lines and hear a “Call me maybe.” ;)

But for all you Fifty Shades fans, here’s something that’s not a rumo(u)r. One can read the lines of the author’s tweet and see “films” instead of “film.” :)

  1. I can’t even wrap my mind around casting rumors anymore. There are so many wonderful actors names being thrown around it’s mind boggling!

One thing I can get super excited about is that there will be MOVIES!!! YAY! I can’t wait until they really start the casting process!

  2. The idea that there might be more than one movie tells me they want to tell the whole story and not leave out one delicious moment.

  3. Well, of course there will be more than one film…if you’ve read the first book you know that they can’t stop the story where that book ends!!

  4. I would so love to see it be Ian Somerhalder cast as Christian Grey. Along with most of the other Fifty Shades fan girls around the world. Wonderful actor to bring this character to life on the big screen.

  5. I don’t like Emma for Ana’s role, she’s too famous and the film is explicit so she wouldn’t fit in it.
No rumors for Christian Grey? The waiting is killing me!

  6. You can not please everyone with who they cast , although i hope most of the rumours stay rumours . Maybe someone not quite as well known as Rob and Kristen , please we will be waiting for them to go all vampire and really Christian is meant to be hot. Emma is so not an Ana. i did see a unofficial clip that was really well done with Alexis Bledel and Matt Bomer . Just stick to the characters in the book and not who is A list in hollywood at the moment.

  7. We are anxiously awaiting the release of this movie! We love diving into the dirty details of these books and soon will be “spilling the beans” on our website which of us have tried some of those details and what it was like. Looking forward to more connections on this site – enjoying all the fan news!!

  8. Chris hemsworth should play christian :). Enough said. Either way who ever they pick, I am sure the movie will come out good.

  9. I love the idea of Matt Bomer as Christian Grey, but i think he will be too short for the role. I think either Chris Hemsworth or Ryan Gosling would be more suited to the description that E.L has given us.
Alexis Bleidel as Ana is a perfect cast as would Zooey Deschanel.
Wish i could attend the casting call.

  10. I actually prefer Emma watts to kristen stewart for this perticular role… I think she would put a better vibe to anastasia’s character… That and “edward” (robert pattinson) doesnt seem right for christian’s role either…

    Just saying…
