The Fifty Shades of GreyTrailer is here!

The stars of Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, sat down to be interviewed this morning on the Today Show. The interview included the unveiling of a modified trailer!

Here’s the full trailer!

So many thoughts on this! Share yours in the comments and we’ll share ALL of ours (and some of yours) in our next post, once we are sure we are able to coherently present them.

Slow Burn

When E L James posted the original version of Fifty Shades of Grey online as fanfiction, under a different title, chapter by chapter, we were there! We were subscribed to the story and received an email stating there was a new update. As readers who were hooked on the story, (don’t tell our bosses) when that update alert came through, we stopped what we were doing in most cases to read the new chapter and to find out what our dear Fifty Shades would do next.

Publishing a story via this medium allowed a certain amount of freedom for the author and a completely different reading experience than we were used to with reading books! I fondly remember the chapter with the game of pool. The chapter was set up at that point that the bet was made, but we didn’t know who would win. At the end of the chapter, E L James asked her readers to comment in the reviews who we thought should win the game. Did reader answers play into the author’s decision or was she just looking for reader reaction and insight into her characters at that point? We aren’t sure. But we DO know that as readers we were being asked for our opinion about this developing story that we had all become so invested in and looked forward to reading each week. In the end, it didn’t matter who sunk that last ball in the game of pool, as long as the author continued writing for us, her fans, and kept working to complete the story!

In her author notes at the beginning of the chapter E L James usually liked to thank her proofreader (her husband), let us know she was locking herself away to keep writing, and in a way to acknowledge us and remind us to keep reading her story, she often offered us two simple words:

SLOW BURN

We have made it through the completion of the fanfiction stories, parts 1 & 2

and then eagerly awaited the release of each of the published books in the trilogy

then thrilled with the news of the movie

and slowly awaited the casting announcements

only to go through the process all over again when a new Christian was needed

happily looked forward a summer release date of the movie, only for it to be pushed back.

And now….with just over a day to go until the trailer is shown on The Today Show Thursday morning….we are getting more snippets of slow burn including this radio commercial!

(Source)

We’ve been burning for all things Fifty Shades for four years now…and yet we know these hours prior to seeing the trailer are going to be the slowest burn of all.

The Countdown is On!

FOUR DAYS TO GO!!!

The countdown is on for the trailer to be shown this Thursday, July 24th, as officially announced by E L James on twitter.

Remember that time Natalie Morales of The Today Show teased us with a picture of herself standing with FSoG director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, on the set of FSoG? Yes, well the running theory is that we will finally see her interviews with the cast on The Today Show this week in conjunction with the release of the trailer, possibly with an introduction to the trailer pre-recorded by Jamie and Dakota.

With less than a week left until we can all finally see the first movie trailer, let’s take a minute to recap how exciting it has been to be a Fifty Shades of Grey fan lately!

Back in June…

In celebration of Christian Grey’s birthday on June 18th, Fifty Shades of Grey author, E L James, announced she would host a giveaway on her author site to win the Red Room of Pain Keychain she had previously shared a picture of on her Instagram account.

PlayroomKeyFob

There was a bit of technical difficulty brought on by the sheer multitude of fans who clamored to enter the giveaway that delayed the contest.

Once back up and running, entries were taken and the winner was announced on EL James’s blog! Congratulations again to a lucky fan named Kimberle in the US! And the rest of us are left up to our own devices when it comes to the playroom, key fob that is! You can order our own via Amazon here!

In the meantime, to celebrate Christian Grey’s birthday, Universal treated fans by releasing the first official frontal still of Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey. Here he is, presumably tucked inside his favorite car, the Audi R8 Spyder.

Finally a patriarch….

Mr. Carrick Grey, or as Marcia Grey Harden (@beloving2) likes to refer to him, the papa Grey to her mama Grey was finally announced on imdb.com. We look forward to seeing experienced character actor, Andrew Airlie, in the role as Christian’s father. A big welcome to him!

A love story unfolds before our very eyes…

The next great love story of our generation IS Ana and Christian but a close second just might be:

FSoG producer, Dana Brunetti and singer/actress, Kristin Chenoworth! They’re just too cute not to include at least once!!!

Surprise gift…

Just last night FsoG fans were amazed when a teaser of the trailer (!!!!) showed up from an unexpected source! On her I Instagram account, Beyonce posted a delicious amuse-bouche, just enough to whet our appetites!

We’re salivating and ready for more!

When the trailer was shown at CinemaCon, it was previously reported in this Huffington Post article (here) that Beyonce’s song “Haunted” played in the background. People Magazine reports that the teaser uses a slowed down version of Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” and questions if Beyonce will be on the soundtrack. Our answer is, “Why wouldn’t she be?” In the spirit of Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, we have no doubt that Beyonce could pull off a fantastic chart-topping hit song to accompany this movie!

If you go back and read the Huffington Post article, you’ll be able to match up some of the scenes from what was described by those who were at CinemaCon and what was in the teaser, including the door being opened. This gives us a lot of hope that on Thursday we will indeed get a glimpse of that famous elevator kiss!

We’ll be on twitter on Thursday looking to share your reactions to the trailer! See you then!

May Updates, Filming Praise from the Stars, & When Will We See that Teaser?

A few updates to note while we wait for that teaser trailer to be released. We still do not know when it will be released, but in speculating there are some important events coming up that the teaser could coincide with such as Christian Grey’s birthday on June 18th, San Diego Comic Con July 24-27, or even sooner at the upcoming RT Booklovers Convention May 13-18.

This week, Ms. James posted on her website about her upcoming traveling, first to NYC  (she’s there now!) and then to the RT Booklovers Convention in New Orleans, where she will get a chance to interact with fellow authors and fans! If the teaser were revealed there, what a treat it would be for the loyal fans who fell in love with the characters on the pages–both paper and virtual!

Feel free to tweet us @50ShadesMovieFS if you are there and get your books signed or meet up with Ms. James. Don’t underestimate the power of the FSoG fans on twitter–a group selfie with Ms. James might just knock Ellen’s Oscar selfie off the charts for Retweets!

We know New Orleans is where the main event is, but if while in NYC she has business to attend to. Maybe something in followup to this picture she posted recently referring to it only as “Work.”  So many possibilities…

Well that kind of work has been paying off slowly but surely, and we can’t help but *smile* when different cast and crew members, who had various levels of involvement in the movie, share what a great experience filming the movie was!

                       — Julia Dominczak (@JuliaDominczak) April 25, 2014

Meanwhile, Victor Rasuk, who will portray Jose, spoke to ENews! while on the red carpet for the movie Godzilla, stating,

“I’ve been sworn to secrecy but I will say this: Dakota was amazing,” Rasuk told us exclusively Thursday at his Godzilla premiere in Hollywood.

“Jamie was amazing. It was one of those things where we came into it wanting to do it justice. And I think all the fans, the millions of fans, will also love what we did. I think we did it justice.”

Victor talks more about his experience with ENews! here.

And, it just so happens that Victor’s co-star in Godzilla was Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the husband of Fifty Shades of Grey director, Sam Taylor-Johnson. Both walked the red carpet for the movie and spoke briefly with Access Hollywood. During the interview, Sam made this interesting reveal!

“Have you found a way to get Aaron in the movie?” Access asked the director at the premiere.

“Actually, I have,” Sam said with a laugh after momentarily hesitating to answer the question.

208396

Not a resounding yes to the question, so our first thought was that with a short amount of time spent on set, Aaron may be playing only a minor role. Maybe he’s the bartender, room service waiter, the delivery man who delivers the books to Anastasia’s apartment, or a business associate Mr. Grey exchanges a handshake with. These would all be simple enough ways of working him in.

Perhaps he was cast in a role during a day of filming when they wanted only a select few people on set to protect the secret of the big twist that we have been led to expect. (Can’t think of a reason he would be involved in RROP scenes unless he delivers and sets up new “equipment.”  But then the article goes on to say that Aaron stepped up as wing man to the secrets.

“Hush, hush. Don’t give anything away yet,” Aaron chimed in.

And this makes us wonder if, due to his ability to protect the FSOG secrets, Aaron was given a larger role such as Ethan or Jack–characters we know well from the books but are still not listed/credited on http://www.imdb.com.

You can read the the full article with Access Hollywood here.

Either way, we are hopeful as ever to hear so much positive about the movie. With every bit more we hear, it’s hard to deny a sense that echoes what Victor Rasuk expressed, that this cast and crew came together with a passion to give the fans a special movie that will both entertain us and pay homage to the love story of Christian and Ana. As always, we are left 50 Shades of Excited in anticipation!

And to add another small piece of positive to our FSoG fandom, we hope those that celebrated yesterday enjoyed a wonderful Mother’s Day! Thank you to those who sent us messages, as we were off having family time!

We thought it was only fitting to express gratitude and motherly sentiment with a phrase we borrowed from actress, Marcia Gay Harden!

Be Loving (1)

Happy Mother’s Day!

Jamie Dornan Wins at the IFTAs

When Jamie Dornan won the UK Broadcasting Press Guild’s Breakthrough Actor Award for his role as Paul Spector in the BBC show, “The Fall” last week, we said it would be his first award of many to come, and we were right!

Tonight he has gone on to win two awards at the 11th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs).

Looking sharp!

And, here he is accepting one of his awards from the evening’s ceremony.

Congratulations to Jamie for being recognized for his work with “The Fall.” Can’t help but see this as good news for us fans who were unsure as to whether he would be able to bring the intensity to the role of Fifty that it requires out of an actor. :)

Have you seen “The Fall” or are you now planning on checking it out?

Heartwarming NorthwestPrime Interview With Jamie Dornan’s Father, Dr. Jim Dornan

As you know, Jamie Dornan very rarely tweets. This one caught our eye:

While we don’t live in Seattle, we certainly know someone who does! All it took was one simple “See this?” tweet from us to Lori from NorthwestPrime, and the wheels were set in motion.

We’re sure most of you are wondering if there was any discussion about Jamie and Fifty Shades of Grey. The answer is yes, but it is not the focus of the interview, which is as it should be. We don’t want to give too much away though because we want you to listen to the interview! We can tell you that Dr. Dornan has read the books and that he is very supportive and understandably proud of his son. It’s not hard to tell where Jamie gets his quiet humility and apparent sense of humor from either.

LISTEN TO THE LIVE INTERVIEW HERE.

And for those of you in and around the Seattle area, Dr. Dornan will be doing a book signing in support of his book An Everyday Miracle at Third Place Books tonight at 7 pm EST. For more information, please go here.

Poignant, thought-provoking and told with great empathy and understanding, An Everyday Miracle is a very real and very human insight into women’s lives by one of Ireland’s most respected gynecologists and obstetricians. The book documents the changes that have occurred in women’s sexual and reproductive rights during the last forty years. It also covers the things that never change – the tragedy of a stillborn baby, the vital importance of the best standards of care, and the miracle of birth.

Jamie Dornan Wins UK Broadcasting Press Guild’s Breakthrough Actor Award

Jamie Dornan was given the award for his role as Paul Spector in the psychological thriller ‘The Fall.’ The BBC Two television series is currently filming its second season in Belfast and co-stars Gillian Anderson (The X Files) as Stella Gibson.

Paul Spector is a husband and a father but it is his actions that come to define him.

Paul Spector is the other side of Stella Gibson’s coin. He is a husband and a father but it is his actions that come to define him. He too seeks to control the world around him, but unlike Gibson he wilfully transgresses the very rules of society that she seeks to enforce.

His family might induce some sort of feelings of love, but it also provides him with the outward appearance of normality. On the surface at least he is socially competent, persuasive and manipulative. By creating a fantasy and putting it into action he believes he creates his own highly controlled existential reality, his personal microcosm.

He works as a bereavement councillor and in fact his unique lack of empathy makes him a superficially competent one. However, it is the activities that he carries out in the shadows of society that reveal Spector’s true character.

Paul Spector is a serial killer. This is his addiction, and like any addict he needs more of the drug each time to reach a similar high.

While he was unable to attend the ceremony due to the scheduling conflict, Jamie did record the following acceptance speech:

Congrats to Jamie, and here’s to many more awards!

First ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Trailer Debuts At CinemaCon

Kudos to Lori Ness from NorthwestPrime for connecting the dots after seeing a tweet from The Hollywood Reporter’s Pamela McClintock (here) yesterday. The poster on a set of elevator doors at Caesars Palace turned out to be a hint of things to come.

Needless to say, Twitter was slammed with tweets from CinemaCon attendees, media outlets, Team Fifty members, FSoG bloggers, and especially FSoG fans.

THR’s Rebecca Ford and Pamela McClintock reported that Universal’s presentation was delivered by Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley. Her biggest reveal? Yep. The first footage from Fifty Shades of Grey.

“Nobody outside the studio has seen a frame of footage,” Langley said.
The clip showed leads Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) meeting in Grey’s office (“Mr. Grey will see you now,” says the receptionist), in coffee shops and the hardware store where Anastasia works, all familiar scenes from the book.
While based on EL James’ erotic novel, the film looks to be more romantic than sexual. There was a brief glimpse of Johnson wearing a black blindfold in a red room, but most of the focus was on the couple’s courting.

“Hearts and flowers — that’s not who I am,” says Grey at one point in the clip, which also showed a brief glimpse of him pushing Anastasia up against a wall.

Kara Warner from YAHOO! Movies gave fans an in-depth glimpse into the screening…

Well hello there, Mr. Grey.

Christian Grey, that is, known to millions of book readers as the love interest du jour of E.L. James’s hit “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which Universal Pictures is bringing to the big screen next Valentine’s Day. As part of their CinemaCon panel Tuesday, the studio served up a veritable buffet of trailer and teaser goodness, including the first look at footage from “Grey.”

The nearly two-minute teaser opens with a cityscape look at Seattle, on a day with some sunshine but mostly grey skies. A soft, slow piano solo plays in the background (which sounds like an airy and eerie cover of Beyoncé’s “Haunted”) as we begin with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) recounting her first meeting with Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) to her roommate, Kate (Eloise Mumford).

“So, what was he like?” Kate asks Anastasia, which we hear in voiceover as the scene of Anastasia and Christian’s first meeting plays out.

“Mr. Grey will see you now,” says his assistant to the brunette as she walks into Christian’s very spacious, immaculate office. The initial exchanges are full of shy glances from Anastasia and fixed gazes from Christian.

“He was really smart, intense,” Anastasia says to Kate, as more of their meeting plays out on screen. He passes her a pencil with “Grey” printed on it and they touch hands briefly. “He was very courteous,” she continues, as we watch Christian help her into her jacket.

“Anastasia,” Christian says as she gets on the elevator.

“Christian,” she responds, and the elevator doors close.

Now the lyrics to the song playing in the background kick in, with a backbeat that fittingly speeds up the action and the courtship. There are passionate embraces and kisses, extended time spent together, touching. We see Anastasia falling head-over-heels in love and into Christian’s world and only realizing she might be in too deep when he slowly opens a door… into a room… (book readers will know what we mean).

“I don’t know if I can be with him the way he needs me to,” Anastasia says in voiceover as we catch a quick glimpse of her lying down, a look of surprise on her face.

The rest of the teaser is a slight back-and-forth between the romance and the potentially dangerous connection between the two lovers. You can feel the intensity building, enhanced by the very colorful landscape director Sam Taylor-Johnson has created. The footage feels lush, elegant, and clean, but with an element of restraint and danger.

And then there is the not-at-all-subtle smolder of Dornan as Christian Grey. He simmers onscreen. Johnson seems perfectly natural as the innocent ingenue about to embark on a road of discovery.

Their final exchange in the teaser is a solid one: “Why are you trying to change me?” Anastasia worriedly asks Christian.

“I’m not,” Christian says, with emotion. “It’s you that’s changing me.”

Exciting stuff, right?! The multi-million $ question now is when will the rest of the world get to see it? Would seem like it would be hard to keep it a secret for too long given the nature of social media, so we’re hoping it’s soon…like tomorrow soon ;) It would be nice if the official movie account got the hono(u)r. You can follow them here, if you’re not already.
