First ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Trailer Debuts At CinemaCon

Kudos to Lori Ness from NorthwestPrime for connecting the dots after seeing a tweet from The Hollywood Reporter’s Pamela McClintock (here) yesterday. The poster on a set of elevator doors at Caesars Palace turned out to be a hint of things to come.

Needless to say, Twitter was slammed with tweets from CinemaCon attendees, media outlets, Team Fifty members, FSoG bloggers, and especially FSoG fans.

THR’s Rebecca Ford and Pamela McClintock reported that Universal’s presentation was delivered by Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley. Her biggest reveal? Yep. The first footage from Fifty Shades of Grey.

“Nobody outside the studio has seen a frame of footage,” Langley said.
The clip showed leads Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) meeting in Grey’s office (“Mr. Grey will see you now,” says the receptionist), in coffee shops and the hardware store where Anastasia works, all familiar scenes from the book.
While based on EL James’ erotic novel, the film looks to be more romantic than sexual. There was a brief glimpse of Johnson wearing a black blindfold in a red room, but most of the focus was on the couple’s courting.

“Hearts and flowers — that’s not who I am,” says Grey at one point in the clip, which also showed a brief glimpse of him pushing Anastasia up against a wall.

Kara Warner from YAHOO! Movies gave fans an in-depth glimpse into the screening…

Well hello there, Mr. Grey.

Christian Grey, that is, known to millions of book readers as the love interest du jour of E.L. James’s hit “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which Universal Pictures is bringing to the big screen next Valentine’s Day. As part of their CinemaCon panel Tuesday, the studio served up a veritable buffet of trailer and teaser goodness, including the first look at footage from “Grey.”

The nearly two-minute teaser opens with a cityscape look at Seattle, on a day with some sunshine but mostly grey skies. A soft, slow piano solo plays in the background (which sounds like an airy and eerie cover of Beyoncé’s “Haunted”) as we begin with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) recounting her first meeting with Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) to her roommate, Kate (Eloise Mumford).

“So, what was he like?” Kate asks Anastasia, which we hear in voiceover as the scene of Anastasia and Christian’s first meeting plays out.

“Mr. Grey will see you now,” says his assistant to the brunette as she walks into Christian’s very spacious, immaculate office. The initial exchanges are full of shy glances from Anastasia and fixed gazes from Christian.

“He was really smart, intense,” Anastasia says to Kate, as more of their meeting plays out on screen. He passes her a pencil with “Grey” printed on it and they touch hands briefly. “He was very courteous,” she continues, as we watch Christian help her into her jacket.

“Anastasia,” Christian says as she gets on the elevator.

“Christian,” she responds, and the elevator doors close.

Now the lyrics to the song playing in the background kick in, with a backbeat that fittingly speeds up the action and the courtship. There are passionate embraces and kisses, extended time spent together, touching. We see Anastasia falling head-over-heels in love and into Christian’s world and only realizing she might be in too deep when he slowly opens a door… into a room… (book readers will know what we mean).

“I don’t know if I can be with him the way he needs me to,” Anastasia says in voiceover as we catch a quick glimpse of her lying down, a look of surprise on her face.

The rest of the teaser is a slight back-and-forth between the romance and the potentially dangerous connection between the two lovers. You can feel the intensity building, enhanced by the very colorful landscape director Sam Taylor-Johnson has created. The footage feels lush, elegant, and clean, but with an element of restraint and danger.

And then there is the not-at-all-subtle smolder of Dornan as Christian Grey. He simmers onscreen. Johnson seems perfectly natural as the innocent ingenue about to embark on a road of discovery.

Their final exchange in the teaser is a solid one: “Why are you trying to change me?” Anastasia worriedly asks Christian.

“I’m not,” Christian says, with emotion. “It’s you that’s changing me.”

Exciting stuff, right?! The multi-million $ question now is when will the rest of the world get to see it? Would seem like it would be hard to keep it a secret for too long given the nature of social media, so we’re hoping it’s soon…like tomorrow soon ;) It would be nice if the official movie account got the hono(u)r. You can follow them here, if you’re not already.

MR. GREY WILL SEE YOU NOW . . . At Caesars Palace

“What is it about elevators?” –Fifty Shades of Grey, E L James

Pamela McClintock, senior film writer at The Hollywood Reporter, shared the newest sighting of the now iconic marketing image via Twitter.

After that tweet, our friend Lori Ness with NorthwestPrime did a little creative thinking, and we like the way she thinks :)

Nothing has been reported about an official Fifty Shades of Grey movie trailer being ready for release, or about anyone from Team Fifty attending CinemaCon, but it’s fun to think about the possibility!

Jamie Dornan Makes Appearance on The Graham Norton Show

Jamie Dornan was a recent guest on The Graham Norton Show–his first interview since the filming of Fifty Shades of Grey movie wrapped.

Because of the casual and humorous format of the show, Jamie is present throughout, sitting on the couch between Ant & Dec and Aaron Paul, later joined by Naomi Campbell.

Though there to promote his upcoming work, “New Worlds” set to show in the United Kingdom, Graham took the opportunity to talk to Jamie about Fifty Shades of Grey. Our Christian Grey actor often flashes a smile that tries to cover his blushing.  As he tells stories about learning how to ‘walk taller’ and dance for his role as Christian, his easy-going persona and ability to laugh at himself shine through. This is a great chance to see a glimpse of “Jamie” we might not have expected, reminding us he’s an actor, separate from his character portrayal of Christian.

Regarding the movie, Graham asks Jamie, “Is that going to change your life?”

Our answer to this question is a lot more confident than Jamie’s humble response. ;)

You can see the whole show here:

Jamie is just getting warmed up, and we know we’ll have a lot more great interviews with him to look forward to in the upcoming year! What do you think of his personality after seeing him on this show?

Dakota Johnson Discusses Fifty Shades of Grey With Vanity Fair

In this behind-the-scenes video from Dakota’s recent photo shoot for Vanities Opener (see more here), the actress tells Senior West Coast Editor Krista Smith that filming Fifty Shades of Grey has been “a very smooth and fun and creative experience.” Adding, “I think going into something like this, you kind of have all these different fears of what it could be like, and none of those things are happening. We all get along really well. The crew’s amazing, and we’re all just trying to make this project the best that it can be.”

Updates & Upcoming Book Signing with E L James

As always, it’s amazingly great to see E L James, Team Fifty, and the extended casting family continue to interact with fans on twitter!

Some interactions are funnier than others. Oh we think this picture will be interpreted as funny anyway, but only the #Greysessed will get the true joke. ;)

Some interactions are to be done in person, as it was confirmed this week that E L James is taking opportunity to do a fan event with a book signing at Chapters Robson in Vancouver BC.

Indigo Events @indigogreenroom Feb 5
**CANADIAN EXCLUSIVE** CONFIRMED. Fifty Shades of Grey author @E_L_James. Feb 16th, 2pm Chapters Robson. Details: http://indigo.ca/events

As always, feel free to send us pictures if you are one of the lucky ones to go! If only her Canadian friend and fellow author, Sylvain Reynard (@SylvainReynard) could join her.

What a treat it is to follow Marcia Gay Harden (@beloving2) who has taken to lovingly referring to herself as “mama grey” on twitter (love it!) and bestows fans bits and pieces of information from the set, including the following:

Marcia Gay Harden ‏@Beloving2  Feb 3 Had a fitting for #50shades today. Why was my rack the only one w clothes on it?? @51ShadesOfGrey :) mama grey

(Well other than that grey suit and tie, Jamie’s wardrobe should be fairly scant, right? #partialNudity he he)

Equally exciting — though we continue to hope she would open up a twitter account — Dakota Johnson is putting herself out there to her new legion of fans by connecting with them in print. The March issue of ELLE Magazine will feature a photo shoot and interview with Ms. Johnson.

Beautiful cover! ELLE and Dakota help make us look forward to both spring and this movie even more!

The cover certainly seems to highlight her upcoming role as Anastasia Steele, depicting the youth, light, and innocence of the Ana we meet at the beginning of Fifty Shades of Grey, while the touch of black thigh-highs and red heels gives us a glimpse at the love and passion she develops and shares for Christian Grey.

We hope to see more interviews with the various stars from the film upcoming and, as always, more interactions with Team Fifty for info and laughs! Speaking on behalf of all fans, we are fully enjoying the interaction that allows us to “witness” so much of the process!

Fifty Shades of Grey: “I’m here to see Mr. Grey.”

The chance meeting that changed everything…

Fifty Shades of Grey, Chapter One, pp. 4-5

THE ROADS ARE CLEAR as I set off from Vancouver, Washington, toward Interstate 5. It’s early, and I don’t have to be in Seattle until two this afternoon. Fortunately, Kate has lent me her sporty Mercedes CLK. I’m not sure Wanda, my old VW Beetle, would make the journey in time. Oh, the Merc is a fun drive, and the miles slip away as I hit the pedal to the metal.

Source: fiftyshadesofgreyfan.org

My destination is the headquarters of Mr. Grey’s global enterprise. It’s a huge twenty-story office building, all curved glass and steel, an architect’s utilitarian fantasy, with GREY HOUSE written discreetly in steel over the glass front doors. It’s a quarter to two when I arrive, greatly relieved that I’m not late as I walk into the enormous – and frankly intimidating – glass, steel, and white sandstone lobby.
